Resident on DSP, impacted by February Victorian Storms and struggling financially.
Resident is currently on a DSP, he is a single father of two girls and a full-time carer of his elderly mother. Residents brother and two nephews are currently experiencing homelessness and the family are residing together in a rural town. During the Feb 2024 storms event the family lost power for 10 days resulting in them loosing all of their food and freezer supplies. Sever winds damaged their front fencing and brought down many trees on the property. The extended family are currently living pay to pay and finding it hard to make ends meet. The resident has taken the initiative to make his home more energy efficient for his family and has applied to the state government loan scheme to get a home battery for their sola panels. To support the family to be better prepared for energy uncertainty in future. The resident is expecting the loan repayments will cost an additional $60 per fortnight and will take 5 years to pay off. The family are seeking any food assistance if possible.
