Every year, vulnerable children are placed into emergency care or foster care in Canberra. You can help them.
Donations of clothes and pyjamas for boys and girls are urgently needed, as is toothpaste, hair brushes and baby items
Kids in Care ACT supports children from newborns to 17 years old who are placed either in emergency care or foster care in Canberra.
Often there is no time to pack personal possessions or loved items. That means no favourite teddy, no doll, no fidget spinner, warm jumper or go-fast runners during a time when everything is already unfamiliar and scary. Kids in Care supplies Child and Youth Protection Services and ACT Together with 'go bags' which include numerous items to make this transition easier for the children. Bags include age-appropriate new items such as toiletries, a book, pyjamas, a cuddly toy, underwear and a change of clothes.
Click here to see the list of what's needed and to donate. Requested items include:
- Clothes - specifically track pants and long sleeve tops / shirts for girls and boys aged 1 to 12 years.
- Pyjamas for girls and boys aged 1 to 12 years.
- Children's toothpaste
- Packets of hand and face wipes.
- Hairbrushes and combs for kids and babies.
- Johnson's baby packs that include powder, lotion, baby wash, shampoo etc. Available at Big W, Target, baby retailers and chemists.
- Non spill drinking cups for babies.
Kids in Care request donations of new items only. You can also donate $5 or $10 to fund the purchases of toothpaste or clothes by using the 'FUND' button.
Children’s responses to the Go Bags are amazing. They have opened the bag and been thrilled to explore what’s inside and enjoy the novelty of having something that is special to them.
It’s so lovely to see how much joy the bags have brought to some kids because now they have their own bag and personal items. And when the kids and young people get the gift vouchers they are so excited.
