Barnardos Australia's Canberra Centre offers family support, out-of-home care and supported accommodation services for disadvantaged children, adolescents and their families in the ACT. Programs and services offered in the Centre reflect the problems of Canberra, with a population of young families and increasing population group of adolescents. As the Canberra population has a broad cross section of people, Barnardos’ programs aim to target the most financially and socially disadvantaged. The Canberra Centre has been operating for more than 40 years, during which time there have been many changes in program development. Most significantly has been the closure of residential units in favour of highly supported community based placements with carers and increased family support.

Base Services Inc

For the past 24 years BASE Services has been providing free lunch time meals, a friendly face and access to essential services Monday to Friday to men and women of all ages who are experiencing homelessness or are at high risk of homelessness in Toowoomba. This includes ex-service people, people with mental health issues, people with disabilities, individuals, families, Indigenous Australians, migrants, people with behavioural issues or trauma as a result of abuse, family, separation, grief or loss.
BASE Services operates on the cold face of homelessness, seeing 40 to 70 people a day access our service for a nutritious meal, swag (which includes a first aid kit, and food hamper), clothing, hygiene packs, and to access our qualified social worker who provides case management, crisis care and emergency assistance. These numbers have been increasing, especially over recent years with the closure of local lodges and boarding houses.
