The couple are in the 80's. They live permanently in a caravan with an annex. The couple receive an aged care pension only. They both have health problems which affect their mobility including needing a hip operation which is now overdue, emphysema, diabetes, and back issues. In the recent floods the couple lost everything after having been woken up in the night with water in their caravan. They evacuated the caravan and went into emergency accommodation. When they returned to their caravan, by boat, the water had engulfed their caravan by over 2 metres. They lost everything with the exception of a few clothes that they left in. During the clean up, an external group came in and threw all their items out which included her jewellery box. They have received some assistance from local community groups but have received no assistance from the Government to date despite applying for the grant. They were not insured as they could not get insurance after the 2021 floods.
