This family is led by a single mother of five, whose youngest daughter, age seven, is receiving palliative care due to a congenital heart defect that significantly limits her quality of life. As the full-time carer for her youngest child, the mother relies solely on Centrelink for income, which makes it difficult to meet essential household needs. She is currently unable to afford a washing machine and fridge on her limited income. The emotional strain on the household is considerable, with the older siblings experiencing social and emotional challenges as they cope with the ongoing impact of their sister’s condition.
