Resident needing to evacuate in the Victorian February Fire event, this has caused financial hardship
Resident lives with his wife and 2 daughters. His 15-year-old daughter is diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, making the evacuation experience and fear associated with fire approaching their home extremely traumatising. Resident had only just moved to his PPR two weeks before the fire event. He advised ‘After paying bond, rent in advance and moving costs I had just $50 to last the 8 days we were evacuated.’ Resident has struggled to restore his financial situation in the 2 months which have followed. The family are $600 behind in rent. It’s $350 per week. The resident has a chronic condition – spinal arthritis. He is unable to work. Resident receives a disability pension. Significant financial hardship. Resident financial situation has worsened due to the fire event and evacuation. Resident requires prostate surgery and the cost of this procedure and travel costs is severely impacting daily living finances.
