Flood impacted in May 2022, (farmer impacted by cumulative disasters).

This couple are farmers who were impacted in the Black Summer Bushfires. This fire followed a period of serious drought that had already dwindled their savings. They lost fencing during the fires and then had a series of poor health circumstances that led to months of hospital visits which interrupted their recovery. The November 21 and February 22 floods washed away their fences and they fixed these themselves each time, without accessing support despite being under financial stress. I called to check in on these residents and found they have been hit again last week but haven't accessed any other support and are once again fixing their fences. They rarely ask for help but have been continually hit by natural disaster after natural disaster. They live way out of town and get cut off sometimes for weeks at a time by flood waters. They are under intense emotional and financial stress while we try and link them to other supports.
