Community run peer support group supporting vulnerable trans and gender diverse young people
This support group is the leading peer support group in South Australia run for and by transmasc and gender diverse (TGD) people. Since 2016, this group has provided vital peer support to over 500 TGD South Australians.
TGD people are one of the most marginalised and vulnerable cohorts within the LGBTIQA+ community. Recent research estimated over 75% of TGD people are treated unfairly because of their gender identity.
This group engages an incredibly vulnerable cohort. 60% of attendees are aged between 12 to 25, 3% are First Nations and 6% are culturally and linguistically diverse. Many of these young people experience financial hardship, separation or disowning from family and significant mental health issues.
We need grocery vouchers to help our TGD young people access the basics they need to get by.
