Grieving grandmother seeking better future for her granddaughter and gaining community connections to regain stability
She is the primary carer for her granddaughter and works to fulfil her responsibilities so she can maintain full custody and wants to provide a safe, stable place for her to grow. Facing significant economic hardship, she is unable to work due to diagnosis of PTSD. Living in isolation in social housing that is not providing hygienic living conditions and has faced experiences of discrimination exacerbated by not being able to access community kinship supports and multiple deaths in the family. Her main priority is to ensure she can continue to care for her granddaughter and get support to work on her mental health barriers so that she can re-enter the workforce and work to become financially independent as it is impossible to rely completely on the Single Parenting Payment. To be able to do this she needs assistance with their immediate material needs such as food and clothing to ensure she can be in the best position physically and emotionally to tackle her current obstacles.
