Domestic & Family Violence
2025 Tropical Cyclone Alfred
38-year-old Indigenous woman escaped an abusive relationship with the father of her 2-year-old daughter. He was jailed for a year but returned post-release, as she couldn’t be relocated from Dept of Housing accommodation. Out of spite, he took all furniture and white goods. She also has two other children under 10; one, with ADD, visits every second weekend.

***Update 17/05/2025: After ex-Cyclone Alfred, her home became infested with mould, spreading to furniture, clothing, and bedding. Most items had to be discarded. Delays from housing services have led to mould mites, leaving her and her kids covered in bites. She’s especially worried for her asthmatic son. Unable to work, the need for new furniture, bedding, and clothes has caused major financial stress. She is seeking temporary accommodation but has no family or friends to stay with. The father offers no support. Any assistance would be deeply appreciated.
