FLOOD RECOVERY: injured in the floods and just 'making do'

After losing his wife of 50 years, this gentleman was then impacted by devastating floods just months later. While trying to assist his neighbours during the disaster, he sustained a serious injury that has left him permanently impaired and largely immobile.
When asked about his living conditions, he insists he is managing. However, with gentle conversation, it becomes clear that he spent months sleeping on a small two-seater couch, sharing his space with rats until he was physically able to remove them.
He embodies a quiet resilience — always helping others, downplaying his own hardship, and believing support should go to those “worse off.” In reality, this gentleman has endured immense loss and trauma and is long overdue for compassionate assistance to restore safety, dignity, and comfort in his home.
