An isolated resident impacted with diabetes unable to afford food after months of saving to fund car & house repairs

Uninsured resident on a disability pension experienced damage to home in the Feb storm, has continued to face financial hardship due to home repairs, damage caused by the storm and needing to self-fund car repairs as she was completely isolated in a regional area without a mechanic or public transportation. She was able to save money to get her car fixed by not buying food and trying to just live off tins in her pantry, which was putting her at risk due to her diabetes. Recently by putting her health and diabetes at risk she was able to fund a local contractor who for a small charge assisted with removal of dangerous trees and clean up. Eighteen months on she is still struggling to save money to complete the house repairs and damage to her PPR.
