High Risk Pregnancy - travelling 500+kms weekly for essential monitoring at nearest tertiary hospital.
Client is currently 33 weeks pregnancy with her 3rd child. Both herself and her partner are on a low income and have 2 young children at home. She is travelling weekly from Bairnsdale (East Gippsland) to Monash Medical Centre (Clayton) for monitoring and scans to ensure the baby's wellbeing. As you could imagine this has put financial strain on the young family with rising fuel costs. The baby will also be born at MMC (likely early), meaning there will be an extended hospital stay also. This increases the need for her partner to be travelling up and down from home, as he tries to support his partner and new baby whilst also caring for his children at home. Whilst they have family to help with babysitting the younger 2 children, with the cost of fuel this may mean she spends much of her time in hospital with a baby in special care , alone.
