An 18-year-old Aboriginal woman who self-referred to our homelessness program after a serious leaving family violence situation. The young woman has lived in emergency transitional accommodation for nine months. The young woman has described multiple family and housing disruptions over her lifetime. This includes early abandonment by her parents; early addiction and recovery; the breakdown of her support networks, and chronic homelessness. Being in insecure housing for this period of time has further added to feelings of unsafety. Safe, secure, culturally appropriate housing is a necessary foundation from which we can grow to our optimal potential. Despite many setbacks, the young woman has remained focused on obtaining a permanent long-term home so that she can start to heal from her childhood experiences. She has now succeeded in reaching this goal and needs just a little more help to re-establish herself and set up her new home.
