Our client is a former addict trying to recover, rehabilitate and rejoin the community after sustaining a Spinal Cord Injury and managing his addictions. He has come a huge distance, but the lack of ability to secure employment has led to severe financial difficulties for him and his family. Forced to live in a non-insulated steel frame garage in Queensland in Summer and Winter is not only uncomfortable but can quickly become life threatening for someone with his level of injury and the lack of ability he has to walk and to regulate his body temperature.
We have managed to source and install an aircon to make his life temporarily more bearable but power bills are unmanageable given the cost-of-living crisis and his current situation of being unemployed. the significant and considerable financial distress is causing huge stress to his relationship, all the while he is having to relearn skills with his spinal cord injury.
