A young family in our community is experiencing significant financial and emotional hardship as Christmas approaches. They have three young children — two infants under six months old and a three‑year‑old — and are struggling to meet their basic needs.

The family recently received an unexpectedly large internet bill, which completely exhausted the money they had set aside for food. This has placed them under severe strain during an already difficult period. The mother has been experiencing ongoing post‑labour depression, and the emotional load has been heavy for the entire household.

The family relies solely on Centrelink payments, and their rent currently exceeds 50% of their income, leaving very little for essentials. As their children grow, the cost of formula, nappies, and age‑appropriate food has increased, adding further pressure. The father lost his job a few weeks ago and is actively seeking new employment, but the family is struggling to stay afloat in the meantime.
