A 33-year-old mother of two young children with chronic health conditions fled a domestic violence situation three months ago and has an interim DVO in place. She’s facing added stress due to an upcoming court hearing. One child has a debilitating lung disease, and the other was recently diagnosed with Epilepsy. Both children also have Autism Spectrum Disorder. After fleeing, she was housed by friends in a private rental but faced flooding from Cyclone Alfred, damaging her belongings. She can't afford to replace them, and her children continue to wear damaged school shoes. Having sold her car for legal fees, she's now renting one, which strains her finances. Public transport isn’t an option, and she needs it for school and appointments. Though usually organised and confident, her situation has taken a toll. She’s rebuilding and striving to return to work while managing her children's health and ASD needs, but she needs support to care for herself and her children.
