Resident with Multiple Sclerosis whose cancer recovery resulted permanent chronic illness and disability.
Resident lives with his wife and 10-year-old daughter. Resident receives a disability pension; his wife is unemployed. He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2011. While trialling a new medical treatment he was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago. Subsequent links between cancer and this medication were later discovered. Resident underwent surgery to remove his bladder and is now dependent on urostomy bags to drain and collect urine daily. Currently the cost of gas heating and cooling the rental property is so high it has limited their ability to purchase food and fuel. Lack of heating and cooling impacts the residents MS symptoms significantly. Despite claiming energy relief, the resident is struggling to pay energy bills and car registration which is vital for attending specialist appointments. Grocery vouchers would significantly alleviate current stress for the family. Fuel voucher would relive the financial pressure created when attending medical appointments.
