A family of four living is currently experiencing severe financial hardship while caring for their 5-year-old child who has significant medical and developmental needs. The parents have lived in Australia for almost a decade and recently received their Subclass 491 visa after a long and stressful visa process. Throughout this time, they have struggled without access to Medicare, NDIS or childcare subsidies, making everyday life extremely difficult
Their youngest child was born with a serious craniofacial condition that required multiple surgeries in the first 18 months of life. The family paid over $10,000 out of pocket for urgent medical care, borrowing money from friends and taking on significant debt. As the child grew older, new health challenges emerged, including epilepsy and global developmental delay. The child requires ongoing specialist appointments, therapy, and developmental support, much of which must be accessed in Sydney due to long wait times,
