Client is from Afghanistan and arrived in Australia on a refugee visa earlier this year, sponsored by her cousin. Sadly, since arriving, client has experienced family violence from her cousin and has been dismissed and isolated by her cousin’s family. With no other support networks and very little knowledge of where to turn, she has felt frightened and vulnerable in a new country.
Despite these challenges, client is determined to create a safe and independent life for herself. Client actively engages with an employment support service, and is eager to find employment to support herself.
One of the biggest barriers client faces is transportation. Client has recently passed her written test with VicRoads and obtained her learner’s permit (L plates). However, client cannot afford driving lessons on her own. Being able to drive is not just a practical skill for her—it represents independence, safety, and the ability to secure and sustain future employment.
