A 17-year-old Aboriginal mother is currently caring for her ten-month-old child while her newborn premature baby remains in the NICU. She is experiencing significant financial hardship due to the rising cost of living and her inability to work while caring for two very young children.
She has limited family support and is linked with support services, but the demands of the NICU stay and preparing for her baby to come home continue to place considerable pressure on her. The traumatic birth and prolonged hospitalisation have also contributed to ongoing mental health concerns.
Support at this time would help relieve immediate stress and allow her to focus on her children’s wellbeing and her own recovery.
