Homeless client finally moving into permanent housing

Prior to moving into crisis accommodation, H had experienced a lengthy period of homelessness, sleeping in parks, garages and couch surfing. H had also experienced ongoing family violence and was the victim of a serious assault resulting in hospitalization. As a result H experienced a significant deterioration in his mental health and an increase in thoughts of suicide and in his substance use. Since moving into crisis accommodation H has made every opportunity of the support offered to work on the issues impacting his health and housing and is now actively engaged with AOD and mental health services. It is through H’s own advocacy and tenacity that he was able to secure long term housing for the first time. H has few social supports or belongings but is future focused and eager to commence the next chapter of his life, already enrolling in a nursing diploma, first step towards his goal of working in nursing
