I’m a youth mental health worker for a not-for-profit community mental health provider in the Southwest Region. I’m supporting a young person who urgently needs a donated bicycle to travel to school. Her application for the local disability bus service was declined, and while support workers have been transporting her, this was only temporary. As a result, her school attendance has dropped significantly.
She lives with her grandmother, the primary carer for her and three other family members with autism. The family faces severe financial hardship and cannot afford a bike. Education is crucial for her academic, social, and emotional wellbeing—regular attendance helps her maintain routine, build relationships, and support her mental health.
A donated bicycle would give her independence, improve access to education, and ease pressure on her support network while keeping her connected to her community.
