Women in custody and women in the community engaging with the Women in Custody & Community (WCC) program, particularly those who do not have family or external supports to assist with basic needs such as clothing. Many women supported through the WCC program enter custody or community supervision with very limited personal belongings and no family able to provide essential items. Clothing vouchers allow staff to respond quickly and respectfully to individual requests, ensuring women have access to appropriate, seasonal clothing that supports dignity, comfort, and wellbeing.
Earlier this year, a donated Kmart voucher enabled the purchase of essential summer clothing, including short tights, for a large number of women. This support has had a meaningful and immediate impact, particularly for detainees who are isolated or newly arrived in Canberra.
