A mother and her 4‑year‑old child recently fled their home due to domestic and family violence (DFV). They were only able to take one bag containing essential items for both.
Following the incident, they have been couch surfing at a friend’s home as a short‑term solution to homelessness.
The mother has now secured a partly furnished property, providing some stability. However, the home does not include whitegoods (washing machine or dryer) or basic kitchen items (cookwear/cutlery and plates).
During this transition, the mother has incurred substantial additional costs purchasing necessary household items. These expenses have significantly impacted her ability to afford food and fuel for her vehicle.
