GIVIT
Family of four living in a caravan park and paying substantial rent whilst trying to survive on benefits. Mum also experiences mental health problems, and the two young children are developmentally delayed. The boy aged 7 is non-verbal and has significant sensory issues; he is awaiting further assessment by a paediatrician/psychologist for intellectual disability. The boy also wears nappies, and this is a big weekly expense for this vulnerable family. It is hoped that once the child receives a diagnosis the cost of nappies will be covered under NDIS. However, until this happens mid next year this will be an out-of-pocket expense for this family who are already struggling financially.
