For many of us, Christmas is a time of joy, family, and togetherness ,but for some women and children, this season can be one of the hardest times of all.
Our service supports Aboriginal women and children escaping domestic, family, and sexual violence. Over the Christmas period, our refuge becomes a safe haven for families who have had to leave everything behind, their homes, communities, and often their belongings , to find safety and start again. Many of the women and children who come to us during this time have travelled from remote areas, arriving in Darwin with only what they could carry. The Christmas season can bring additional pressures and heartache, especially for mothers doing their best to keep the spirit of Christmas alive for their children despite such difficult circumstances. That’s where your generosity can make all the difference. We are seeking donations of new toys and gifts for the children who will be stay staying with us over the festive season.
