A young couple, a male aged 18 years and a female aged 16 years, have experienced significant housing instability, including approximately nine months of homelessness, periods of couch surfing, and multiple episodes of sleeping rough. Their homelessness has been compounded by extensive exposure to alcohol and other drug use, family violence, significant trauma, family breakdown, and the development of learning disabilities.
The young male identifies as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and has experienced cultural disconnection, which has further impacted his social and emotional wellbeing.
Despite these challenges, the couple has demonstrated strong engagement with support services and a commitment to stabilising their lives.
They have recently secured long-term housing. This is a significant achievement and a critical step toward improving their safety, stability, and overall wellbeing.
