An Aboriginal grandmother is now caring for her 13-year-old grandson, who bravely self-placed into her care after enduring years of physical and emotional abuse from his parents. With the help of police and DCJ, his voice was finally heard, and he is now safe. The grandmother has applied to Centrelink for support, but the process has been delayed due to ongoing disputes from the parents, who falsely claim to still have him in their care. The boy arrived with very few belongings and limited winter clothing, most of which no longer fit. He will soon need to transfer to a new high school, requiring a full uniform. His grandmother, who pays full private rent, is struggling to meet the cost of groceries and other essentials. While the boy is trying to help by doing a small catalogue run, it doesn’t cover their basic needs. Support would ease their financial strain and help provide stability as they work to heal and rebuild their lives together
