An elderly gentleman is transitioning into aged care—not due to immediate health needs, but as a result of the ongoing housing crisis in our local area. He has been left with no viable alternative, and the move is being made out of necessity rather than choice.
Currently, he resides in a space that is essentially a garage, for which he pays an exorbitant amount. The poor living conditions, including high humidity, have led to severe mould growth, damaging his belongings and significantly impacting his respiratory health.
The aged care facility will consume approximately 90% of his income, leaving him with very limited financial flexibility. He is deeply concerned about becoming socially isolated and losing access to entertainment and connection with the outside world. A basic laptop would greatly assist in maintaining his social ties and mental wellbeing during this difficult transition.
