He arrived in Australia by boat with his son, seeking safety and a chance to rebuild. After being detained and exposed to harsh conditions, he was eventually granted refugee status and working rights only. For a time, he worked, supported his son, and began to settle into life here.
However, ongoing mental health challenges began to surface. Episodes of psychosis led to a breakdown in relationships, periods of homelessness, hospitalisation, and involvement with the justice system. Despite this, he remained engaged with support services and slowly began to stabilise.
He has now been granted permanent residency and, after a long wait, has finally been offered public housing. This marks a significant turning point, a chance for real stability after years of uncertainty.
