Domestic & Family Violence
Young People(16-25) presenting to our local Port Macquarie Youth Homelessness service often have nothing but the clothes they are wearing. They are mostly escaping domestic and family violence and carry transgenerational trauma. There are 46 young people currently in Kempsey of which 30% are Aboriginal. They are eligible to get a drivers license which will give them more opportunities to improve their situation via work and study however cannot afford private lessons and do not have anyone that can teach them. A drivers license is essential in Regional NSW especially if the young people want to work and or study outside of Kempsey. It is a major disadvantage for them not to obtain a license. They need assistance to pay for lessons. It cost $60/ 1 hour lesson and require 20 hours before sitting test. Ideally each young person to receive vouchers to assist them to aim for a drivers license.
