Woman in her early 30's now homeless after leaving a share house because she was sexually assaulted - looking for support
This woman in her early 30's is homeless and has been for a month. She was living in an overcrowded house where she experienced sexual assault. Her partner was away working at the time and she was being targeted by other men in the house. The woman and her partner had no choice but to leave. Since then her partner has had to resign from his work as he knows that this woman is severely traumatised by the sexual assault experience. Neither of them have an income now, the woman's partner is on Job Seeker but as the woman is from NZ, she has no income as she is a NZ citizen and is not eligible for Centrelink benefits. The two are now looking for accommodation but with no affordable housing they are not in a good position. The woman's partner has the offer of employment but he does not want to take it until the woman feels safe. A vicious circle as she won't feel safe while homeless. They are couch surfing when possible, but it is very tough as neither has family nearby.
