2025 Tropical Cyclone Alfred
38 year old Indigenous woman escaped a DV relationship that nearly killed her, with the perpetrator jailed. She later secured housing, but Cyclone Alfred destroyed many possessions and spread mould, worsening her financial hardship. One child has asthma, making the mould issue more concerning. She is currently unable to work while caring for her children. Her abuser’s recent release from jail has increased her anxiety. She purchased a car to ensure school transport and safety in emergencies, but this exhausted her savings for household items. She has no functioning microwave, and her mould-ridden couch had to be discarded. For now, she has created a makeshift space for her children with Kmart pillows and blankets. She is working hard to provide a safe and stable home, but urgently needs support to replace essential household items and make the space comfortable for her children. Any offers of support would be greatly appreciated.
