I work for a Youth Service in the Fremantle Area that supports young people and families who are facing homelessness.
I am working with a 22 yr-old Aboriginal woman with two young sons, who have been experiencing homelessness since escaping FDV perpetrated by the father of her sons. The woman was living in a remote area, isolated from her family support network. The compounding experience of trauma, isolation and abuse took a significant toll on her mental health.
Since escaping, and relocating back to Perth, she has been a powerful advocate for herself and her children, and has begun her journey of healing from the trauma. She has displayed determination to create a life within which she and her sons can thrive.
She has recently secured a transitional housing property where she can live until she gets long term housing. Unfortunately, due to financial hardship she is struggling to access all furniture/household items to turn the property into a home for herself and her sons.
