I’m reaching out from a not-for-profit service supporting children in rural and remote communities across Australia. Families travel to Sydney for free developmental assessments, but many face added costs — travel, lost income, and being away from home.
These families are not just navigating distance. Many are also grappling with complex challenges like mental health issues, domestic violence, financial hardship, and child protection concerns. Our staff are often the first to witness the toll this journey takes. In moments of acute stress, a simple act of support — like a grocery or fuel voucher — can make a profound difference. It might mean a warm meal, a tank of petrol, or simply the reassurance that someone cares.
These small gestures ease the burden and allow families to focus on what matters most: their child’s wellbeing.
