Every day at Wayside Chapel, people walk through our doors carrying more than the weight of homelessness. Many are parents who can’t afford a gift for their kids, young people with no family to spend Christmas with, or older visitors who haven’t seen a loved one in years. The festive season is the hardest stretch of the year for those already doing it tough. Last Christmas we saw a huge rise in crisis support, and this year the need is already growing.
Kmart, Big W, and toy vouchers make a real difference here. They restore dignity, let parents choose gifts for their kids, and give people experiencing poverty a moment of normal joy. We don’t means-test Christmas, we just show up for anyone who needs support. GIVIT’s help would ensure every visitor who walks through our doors this season feels seen, valued and part of a community that hasn’t given up on them.
