RACV driving lessons

Dandenong VIC 3175

The client needs driving lesson vouchers to gain the skills and confidence necessary to pass her driving test, which would enable her to secure a job once granted work rights. This would provide her with independence, improve her mental health, and reduce her reliance on others for transportation, ultimately helping her move towards stability and self-sufficiency.

Recipient story

transgender woman facing homelessness, family violence, and financial hardship seeks support to regain confidence.
Domestic & Family Violence
GIVIT
Ready to Learn
A transgender woman, with no work or study rights and no income, is dependent on charity organisations for emergency relief. She has been couch surfing at friends' homes but recently moved into rental accommodation. However, she remains at risk of homelessness due to her lack of income. She is working on her visa but, in the meantime, wants to pass her driving test to secure a job once granted work rights. Her confidence and mental health have been severely impacted by family violence based on her gender identity and sexuality, leaving her constantly shamed and with low self-esteem. To regain her confidence, she needs skills and a license. She struggles to access services as she cannot afford public transport and relies on friends to take her to appointments, which are often delayed or cancelled.

How it's helped before

[We assisted] a woman who had four children in primary school this year, she shared that she was worried about ensuring they all had what they needed and felt equally included, so the [GIVIT donations] really helped to lift that concern. Some women brought their children with them [to collect donations] and faces just lit up as they chose their lunchboxes and backpacks and packed their pencil cases.
