Single parent family from First nations community. Mum has experienced financial pressures exacerbated by DV which led to mum and her 2-year-old daughter seeking support and being connected with a caseworker.
Mum’s goal is to go back to work either as cleaner or her ultimate goal is utilising her hairdressing qualification and starting a home salon.
She has not had many opportunities to “dream big” and is working to build her confidence back up again but her dedication to her daughter is admirable as she makes every decision with her baby’s best interests at heart.
Currently, they are working to make their house feel like a home and it is missing a few essential furnishings including a children’s bed for her daughter. Mum said she would love a bed fit for the princess she is.
It takes a village to raise a child and that concept is especially prevalent in Indigenous traditions but that is not something this family have very much of at the moment so we are working together.
