This young person is a 15-year-old Indigenous girl living in a small household with her mother and two younger siblings. She has a lower limb disability and is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse by her father. These experiences continue to significantly impact her mental health, alongside feelings of guilt that her younger siblings are growing up without a father.
She ran away at the end of last year but has since returned home and made a strong effort to re-engage with school. She is currently attending regularly, working casually, and participating in youth programs as a way of building stability, confidence, and positive connections. She also attends ongoing counselling sessions for trauma support.
The family is unable to afford a laptop. While she has access to one at school, it cannot be taken home, limiting her ability to complete schoolwork and stay engaged. At home, she takes on additional responsibilities supporting her mother, who has a brain injury.
