Melbourne City Mission's Youth Refuges support young people ages 16-25 who are experiencing homelessness.
When people come into a youth refuge, it is likely that they have been sleeping rough for a while or just escaped a terrible situation.
It's tough to carry around a bottle of shampoo in a backpack, and likely the last thing on your mind when you're leaving your home in a rush.
But when thinking of ways to find a home, get a job, or engage in education, it's hard not to consider a person's hygiene as a barrier to entry.
Those who have specific hair or skin needs may not be able to use the store brand hygiene products that they are able to afford, and thus are likely to go without.
