54yr old with multiple myeloma - unable to work on jobseeker

54year old previously fit and active man, with multiple myeloma struggling mentally with his diagnosis and the treatment that he requires. which has been delayed due to other health issues. lives with his 78yr old mother who is currently caring for him. Gentleman is on unpaid leave from work and only receiving job Seeker, his mother is on Aged pension. they are struggling now financially due to extra medications and the reduction of income in the home. He is hoping to return to work although he has not completed his treatment or been given a prognosis as yet. His mother has been transporting him to appointments and has used all of her pensioner travel card so now they have further costs for fuel. this gentleman has a number of appointments he has to attend in Perth he can apply for some assistance through PATS but this does not cover the full costs, so this is adding to the financial and mental struggle for them both.
