Through all adversities this family has proven that family always comes first no matter what. Mum is a single mother with her own disability who never gave up on her daughter returning home to her care. Mum ensured that she remained connected to her daughter with weekly phone calls and fortnightly visits and her perseverance never wavered in the six years that her daughter was in foster care. In July this year daughter returned home to mum full time and both were overcome with joy. The happiest I have ever seen the both of them. Mum and daughter both have intellectual disabilities and even though they struggle daily with normal tasks they both strongly advocate for each other and their needs, their bond will never be broken. This mother through all of her struggles and of course the learning curves of raising a teenage daughter that continue, is a parent that deserves to be celebrated and supported as she truly demonstrates what a mother’s love is.
