50 year old woman seeks urgent help after fire-related flooding made her social housing unit uninhabitable and unsafe.

50 year old woman receiving the Disability Support Pension from Centrelink is living in a social housing unit that became uninhabitable after knee-deep flooding caused by the fire brigade’s response to a fire in January 2025. The flooding destroyed her appliances and fittings, and the unit now has severe damp and mould. Despite repeated attempts to seek help, neither housing services nor the fire brigade have accepted responsibility or offered compensation or repairs.
She has also experienced significant trauma in her community, including threats, violence, drug activity, and deaths. Although she has requested a transfer, housing services have not responded. She has been without support for over six months and is now seeking assistance through Legal Aid.
While she continues to support others in her community, the unsafe living conditions are severely impacting her ability to care for herself. Any help to improve her situation would be greatly appreciated.
