Recipient story

Nutritional challenges facing the homelessness
GIVIT
Christmas 2025
Our organisation empowers Victorians experiencing homelessness via housing aid, meals, and drop-in support. We seek vouchers to improve nutritional quality—a key recovery barrier.
In Victoria, healthier foods are less accessible due to cost and transience. Studies show 90.6% of homeless people at moderate-high risk of poor nutrition, with low fruit/veg intake and reliance on nutrient-poor options. In Melbourne, diets lack balance, driving decline.
Consequences: life expectancy cut by up to 33 years; accelerated CVD, diabetes; 32% obesity amid malnutrition; 70% dental issues; 2.5x poor physical health, 4x distress. Clients face fatigue, slow healing, infections, poor sleep.
We request Coles/Woolworths vouchers to guide select clients on sustained shopping trips for nutritional supplements, supporting immunity, recovery, vitality—not one-offs.
