Grocery Voucher - $20

One of our clients, a man in his 60’s, first came to us when he was homeless. He is shy & softly spoken, not wanting a fuss made and really uncomfortable asking for help. We provided a swag & some food & encouraged him to continue seeking support from us while he was in crisis.
Over the next 5mths, he dropped by and asked for a breakfast pack or took some bread, but always said no if we asked if he wanted to come in and seek further assistance.
We persevered, greeted him by name when we saw him, asked him how things were going. He didn’t engage much so we didn’t push it, but we all hoped he would one day feel comfortable enough so that we could help him more.
Yesterday, we spotted him sitting in the waiting room waiting for an available CSW. Our kindness, friendliness and perseverance paid off, he felt comfortable enough to ask for a bit more help. We were thrilled to give him a Coles voucher and a referral to the local FoodShare. We hope he comes back soon.
