Vulnerable young man on disability pension experiencing severe financial hardship needs financial help
GIVIT
Young man in his late 20s with significant mental health issues on a disability pension is experiencing severe financial hardship due to the high cost of his electricity bill, his medication plus the cost of living. He lives alone in a Dept of housing unit which does not have any aircons installed. Due to the hot temperatures experienced in Far North Queensland this has made his home unbearable so he has resorted to using a portable air-conditioning unit. He believes that this is what has contributed to his very high electricity bill but he can see no other solution. Clients medication cost are also high and he's constantly needing to access emergency relief in order to be able to eat. Sometime he is unable to access emergency relief and grows very desperate. His mother supports him where she can but she also has a limited income.
