A mother who has spent years surviving prolonged, complex family violence that has left deep emotional, financial, and practical impacts. She has been subjected to ongoing coercion, control and instability, which has affected every part of her life and her ability to support her children. She is now caring for some of her children while being separated from others, not by choice, but because violence and financial strain have disrupted the stability of her family unit. The ongoing effects of trauma, unsafe environments and financial abuse have pushed her into crisis, and she is now facing homelessness at Christmas despite doing everything she can to keep her children safe.
Leaving a violent relationship did not bring immediate safety or stability. Instead, she was left with significant debt, depleted savings, and the responsibility of rebuilding a home for her children without any practical or financial support from the perpetrator.
