My client’s mother has passed away suddenly due to a brain aneurysm. Her death has had a profound impact on the family, who are understandably devastated by this sudden and tragic loss. She was a deeply respected Elder and the central figure within her family - the person who held everyone together. Despite her own health challenges and life stressors, she was the primary carer for several of her grandchildren and provided constant care, guidance, and stability to her family.

For this Aboriginal family, the funeral holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, and honouring her properly is of great importance. The family is now faced with the emotional and practical task of organising funeral arrangements while grieving her loss. In addition to the substantial costs associated with the funeral itself, many family members will be travelling from interstate to pay their respects, and my client and his siblings are working to accommodate and support relatives arriving in Sydney.
