REQUEST FOR HELP EVERY 39 MINTUES FOR SOMEONE IMPACTED BY DOMESTIC AND FAMILY VIOLENCE
- Not-for-profit donation platform GIVIT receives a request every 39 minutes to help someone impacted by DFV
- Over 32,700 urgent requests for essential goods and services are currently listed on GIVIT for people impacted by DFV
Not for profit charity GIVIT receives a donation request every 39 minutes for an Australian experiencing domestic and family violence. This includes urgent requests for donations of mobile phones, grocery and fuel vouchers and clothing for people who have escaped violence with nothing.
GIVIT Head of Engagement Christina Spehr said there are over 37,000 essential goods and services currently requested on GIVIT for people experiencing domestic and family violence.
“Almost half of all requests on GIVIT are for people experiencing domestic and family violence,” Christina said.
“The addition of rising fuel costs and the increased cost of living has pushed so many people to breaking point. We’re calling on people who want to help to visit GIVIT.org.au and donate what they can.”
Working with more than 5,000 charity partners across Australia, GIVIT has launched a dedicated Domestic and Family Violence Appeal to ensure people escaping domestic violence have access to the goods and services they need to safely begin the next chapter of their life.
“GIVIT works with crisis accommodation centres, women’s legal services and grassroots charity groups to ensure people experiencing DFV have access to the essential goods they need, for example mobile phones, SIM cards, grocery and fuel vouchers which may seem small, but these donations make a big difference to a person in crisis.”
“Charities and support organisations helping people who have escaped DFV are often stretched in terms of resources and can struggle to source essential items,” said Christina. “GIVIT can provide donations to help meet this demand to ensure people get exactly what they need, when they need it.”
